I’ve been a member of Lady of America since
the doors opened. In the first 3 years of my membership, I think
I actually came in about 10 times. Then in November of 2004,
after a family vacation to Hawaii, I saw the pictures and I was
devastated. I was huge, tipping the scales at around 200 pounds
(I’m 5’ 5”)! It took me until the early spring
of 2005 to decide to make some changes.
A good friend joined Lady of America with me when I renewed my membership.
Having someone to workout with was a blessing, especially at the early stages
when we were sore, tired, and neither of us wanted to workout. We kept each
other going. In 3 months I lost 5 pounds, and while any downward movement of
the scale was an improvement, I had a long way to go. I was disappointed with
my weight loss and the friend I was working out with took a job and was unable
to workout with me. I thought I had some compelling reasons to quit.
I’ve always struggled with my weight, but when I was younger it came
off and stayed off much easier. I always thought I didn’t look bad for
someone my age with two kids. The scale and my body were telling a different
story. The reality was I couldn’t carry a basket of laundry up the stairs
without being completely winded. It was difficult to bend over to tie my shoes,
and I was buying clothing sizes I NEVER thought I would wear.
In July I decided I needed some help. I started personal training with Denise.
It was a turning point for me. Mainly, some things changed in my head. I realized
that I was more disciplined then I thought I could ever be. I work out 5 days
a week. I keep a food journal, which has helped me to maintain my focus. It’s
so easy to take that last bite of mac and cheese out of the kid’s bowls
or eat a “couple” of M&Ms or a handful of chips. It adds up.
Writing down what goes in your mouth in a day is eye-opening. That’s
not to say that I don’t have cravings. I don’t deny myself things
that I really want. If I want a glass of wine or a few bites of dessert, I
have them. I’m just way more conscious of portion size.
In 4 months I’ve lost 30 pounds. My goal is 50. If you see me in the
gym I will be a sweaty mess. I know that I can’t come to the gym and
breathe the air to reach my goal. The hours I spend at Lady of America are
the best things I can give myself, and my family. I’m teaching my children
to make good choices about food and to live a healthy lifestyle that involves
being active and I get to shop for lots of smaller sized clothes! |

Growing up I was athletic, but four knee surgeries in high school and college brought my activity level to a halt. I spent the next six years packing on the pounds until my weight reached 182 lbs. With a family health history laden with cancer, heart disease and diabetes I knew I had to make a change. I recruited my mom and we joined Ladies Workout Express in June. We diligently workout three times a week and met with a nutritionist we found through the gym. Since June I have lost 22 pounds and 26 inches. The weight is coming off steadily, my energy level is up, and I look and feel the best I have in years! The best part is that I did it by exercising and making small changes in my diet that I can live with - happily! |

"I was 'that' woman you did not want to sit with on the bus or plane because you knew you were not going to get your entire seat. Now thanks in part to the Ladies Workout Express, I am 85 lbs. lighter and 34+ inches smaller in 1 year! I wear a smile these days because I wake up with energy and I look forward to working out and tracking my results. I am competitive by nature and Ladies Workout express has been a vital component of my successs. The circuit is as challenging as I need it to be and fits to my busy schedule. "IF I CAN DO IT, ANYONE CAN!" In the summer of 2003 I had peaked at my highest weight….227 Pounds. I hate to admit that because prior to the birth of my son I had worked for Weight Watchers for 8 years and I knew better. In my mind being pregnant gave me a license to eat and I took full advantage of it. I have always struggled with my weight and have tried every diet known to man but as soon as I lost the weight and went "off" the diet it all came back plus some. But shortly after a road trip back East and barely being able to walk each morning I decided it was time to take charge and do something about it.
Earlier in the year I had joined a circuit training club but wasn't having real great results; then I joined Ladies Workout Express. I worked out at least 4 times per week and I completely changed the way I eat. I wasn't on any diet or plan I just knew what I should avoid and started doing so. Over the last year and a half I have lost over 80 pounds and went from a size 2X to a size 8. And the best part is I never felt like I was depriving myself in any way. I am so committed to Ladies Workout Express and believe so strongly that the exercise program they offer is at least 75% of my success (the other 25% is determination). After a full year of working out at LWE I joined the staff in the summer of 2004, and I continue working out with the members. I encourage you to join me, we have a blast working out and watching each others' successes. If I can do it, anyone can!
